    Hi,
    Symantec Altiris version 8.5 RU4 was recently released and I'm testing it, however when testing with the patch management solution in the Client Management suite I download the missing patches for endpoints that are managed by SMP I can't enabling the policy when turning it on does not change to ON and if I just leave it turned off I click Distribute software updates does not create the policy and it stays that way.

    Unable to activate policy to distribute patches

    Hi,

    I tried to reproduce your problem with different browsers and bulletins but it worked fine for me.
    May you share more details about your environment? Do you get any errors logged to Altiris log?
    Do I understand your problem correctly that when you click on "Distribute software updates" it doesn't progress to the "Create Software Update Policy" UI but stays in "Distribute Software Updates" wizard with just update items removed from the dialog?
    Have you tried different browsers to see if it could be browser specific?

    I tried Internet explorer and google chrome but I have the same problem, this error shows me in Altiris log viewer (Attached file).

    Hi

    I am experiencing the exact same problem as the original post by Jesus Eduardo Carbajal Ledezma

    I have tried the following:

    • Using Various Browsers.
    • Using different Built-in Reports to create the Software Update Delivery
    • Using different Updates from different years
    • Using different Bulletins from different years
    • Using a single Update or Bulletin instead of Bulk selection
    • Using Bulk Update or Bulletin instead a single selection
    I am also getting the exact same error in the log as Jesus Eduardo Carbajal Ledezma

    A Workaround can be used "PatchWorkflowSvc". (Supplied by Rufus Swart from ProServe Consulting)

    Steps to use this workaround.
    1. Navigate from your SMP to https://localhost/Altiris/PatchManagementCore/PatchWorkflowSvc.asmx?op=CreateUpdatePolicy

    2. Enter the required Parameters
    • name:   - The Name of the Policy (Any Name you desire)
      bulletinGuids:   - GUID of the Bulletin
      targetGuids:   - GUID of your Target
      enabled:   - Enter true or false (true will switch on the policy immediately and false will keep it off)
    3. Click on Invoke.

    Example

    It is correct, this I create the policy and it was only necessary to enter the computers to which the patch is applied, it is a possible solution, however, it causes me conflict that it has to be done in this way since in version 8.5 RU3 it is not I had this problem, in fact I thought it was a problem when updating and so I installed version 8.5 RU4 from scratch and the Patch Management problem remains the same.

    Hi All, Just an update on my workaround above.

    You only have to create one policy as per above method.
    Once Policy is created you can add multiple Bulletins or KB's into the Policy created.

    Method:

    1. Open the Policy you have created.
    2. Select the Updates in Software Update.
    3. On the left side, you search for the Bulletin or KB and move them to the right-hand side and click OK when done.
    4. Save the changes made to your policy
    5. Patches that have not been downloaded will be downloaded now.
    6. If one of the patches failed to download, the policy will not be saved. You will need to remove the patch from the Software Updates Windows and save the policy again.

    Has there been any pointfix released for this? I don't want to upgrade my prod environment and have to deploy patch policies this way.

    I just went to find if there was any hotfix for this problem but there is no update and I continue with this problem, it is worth mentioning that the Mornay du Plessis solution does work.
