What is solutionsam? and why?

As per title, what is solutionsam?

I tried reading this article and its posted a decade ago so I'm not sure if its update with NS 5.8.

And why solutionsam? Can we use Microsoft URL if any?

Yes, I believe it does still apply.

This is for Symantec software used to install the Symantec IT Management Suite components, Microsoft URLs are for downloading Microsoft patches.

Solution Sam was the mascot waaaaaaaay back in the day.  He was an owl.  I had a Solution Sam Owl at one point in the game.  Perhaps NS 5.5 days or earlier?

As mentioned Solutionsam is where the software, etc. for windows update and also the actual software you download to install Symantec Management Solution

So, every patch updates are downloaded from Solution Sam? Can we specify other alternate URL or we must use Solution Sam?

Keep in mind that for Patch, you are downloading Meta Data about software updates (patches) from SolutionSam, not the updates themselves. The updates come from the vendor that publishes the update. The URLs to download the patches, including those for Microsoft patches, are part of the PM Import.

You can change default location (solutionsam) to alternative location to get updated pmimport.cab
