  • 1.  Message based content for CCS11 Manager that supports Windows 2012 Agent

    Posted May 17, 2013 08:23 AM

    Hi,

    I just installed latest SCU2013-1 and PU2013-2 in order to test agent-based RBC and MBC data collection from Windows 2012 server.

    I followed instructions described here: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/securityupdates/detail.jsp?fid=ccs&pvid=pgu&year=&suid=20130509_01

    However when I tried installing message based content on CCS Manager (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/security/CCS/pgu/2013.05.09/message%20based%20content%20package%20for%20CCS%20Manager.zip) it did now work and I noticed it is for win-ix86 platform and my CCS Manager is runnig on Windows 2008 R2 (together with Application server as this is all-in-one test set-up).

    This is the error message I get when I try to run: esmcontenttpk.exe

    The following warning(s)/error(s) have occurred:
    MarkerNotFound: format error in C:\temp\win-ix86\esmcontenttpk.exe( -1 )

            Press <return> to exit the tune-up package.

    Is there somewhere esmcontenttpk.exe available for x64 platform or am I missing something?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    The esmcontenttpk.exe is common for all Windows flavors and not separate for different windows flavors.

    Would you please verify the MD5 checksum of the file which you have downloaded. Looks like the file got corrupted during download/transit.

    Please let me know if this helps.

    Thanks Vighnesh. I re-downloaded the file and this time it worked OK. However the issue was not due to corrupted download but to incorrect binaries. The zip file I originally downloaded contained esmcontenttpk.exe with time stamp 4/2/2013 1:09AM and the current file downloaded has time stamp of 4/2/2013 4:39AM. Also the md5 of the first one did not match expected value:

    $ md5sum esmcontenttpk.exe

    1c29c43bd002f728a330b94c18a7b3bc *esmcontenttpk.exe

    $ cat esmcontenttpk.exe.md5

    5fee7f3258fcc97b99baa272475dd4a4 *esmcontenttp

    Newly downloaded has correct md5:

    $ md5sum esmcontenttpk.exe

    5fee7f3258fcc97b99baa272475dd4a4 *esmcontenttpk.exe

    $ cat esmcontenttpk.exe.md5

    5fee7f3258fcc97b99baa272475dd4a4 *esmcontenttpk.exe
