    Howdy.

I'm having some real problems getting these NDIS drivers to work.  I've gotten the latest ones from 3COM with no luck, and tried the universal packet driver with no luck as well.

I'm using Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 with a Dell Precision 9220 client and just creating an image task over the network.  All my other network cards work fine.

The error it gives is "command to adapter timed out".  I've moved the card around into different slots and still get the same error.

Anyone mess with this card before?  Any advice?

    Thanks!

I have never used this network card. Are you sure the card it's self isn't bad? Does it work when put into another computer (that already has Windows installed)?

thanks for the quick reply.  yea, the card is good.  it works fine while windows vista is up.  we're using that card on about 10 machines total in my work area and it works using various operating systems.

just some more info i found.  this card DOES work with our dell precision 390's and a few of our other optiplex machines.  it specifically won't work with our precision 690's and precision 9220's.  think it's something on those boards?  i'm gonna poke around the BIOS and look for settings.

    David,

What I have noticed with the 3COM cards is that the latest drivers still tend to be really old (2002, last time I checked). If you have it working in Vista, that must mean the Vista drivers are good. So using a Windows PE based boot package would be a good idea. You can either upgrade to Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 and make a boot disk through the boot wizard, or you can use the following instructions for creating a custom Windows PE package:

How to build a Windows PE [Vista] CD/DVD that contains Ghost32.exe and then join a client machine to a Ghost Cast Server session to create or restore an image file.

If for some reason you can not use GSS 2.5 (I do highly recomend it) another option that people used to do is use BartPE. It's a modified version of WinPE set up for IT users. I also think it is free.

Cobra7 is correct... BartPE is indeed free. Make note that it requires Windows XP drivers, since it is based on Windows PE 1.0, not Windows PE 2.0 like Ghost Solution Suite 2.5, or the Windows Automated Installation Kit in the article I linked.
