Monitor Solution Dashboard

Hey guys and girls.

So i've been asked to create a dashboard for Monitor Solution, Something very similar to the default view when you select Home > Monitoring and Alerting
(I'm using NS7 by the way)

The need is to have the view of Monitored Resources by Status, but viewed with multiple Resource targets.
See attached screenshot....

Ive created the view as needed by cloning the current web part and adding them to my new view.

The problems are:

1) Refer to the red blocks A and B - i cant have the size set to equal width, it's either the width of A or the width of B....
2) When you change the Resource target as indicated with 1, 2, 3 and 4... it applies these throughout all four web parts, whether you change it in the view or each individual web part.

Any ideas?

Hello EugneneFT,

Regarding the dashboard, i am looking into this now.  When you edit the resource target in the UI it is shared between the Web Parts and we plan to change this in the future though if you edit the Web Part URL and place an explicit reference to the Resource Type GUID then this will work though i have noticed it is no longer working in my lab machine so i am looking into this further.  Please feel free to try on your web part by using the following criteria below into the URL.

targetGuid=%resourcetargetguid%

An example of this would be the following for Windows Server Resource Target:
/Altiris/AeXMonitor/ConfigUI/PortalWebParts/ResourceByStatus.aspx?targetGuid=a98468ac-d7b9-4ad4-83ad-45f15be8cd2e

Nice to see the experts are on the forums and helping where they can...

Unfortunately this didn'[t work for me, even though i added the Filter GUID to the url and saved it, it still displays the last "assigned" filter in all of the views. I will continue to try and find a way, but im certain you'll have an answer asap.

I have been asked for this functionality as well. I am trying to create it now. EugeneFT, would love to know what used to get yours setup. Management also wants the report emailed to them daily.

Any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

We have addressed this issue in the next release of Server Management Suite 7.1.  It also includes some additional functionality around the resource target selection.

Is there no way we can have this working in NS7.0? Will they still try and resolve it, or is it best that we go 7.1...?

It is not available in the beta build at this time but will surely be in the ITMS 7.1 release.  Some information to the change to the Web Part are below.

 

Cloned Monitored Resource by Status web parts can now use different resource targets. Additionally user can specify targetGuid in web part.

Additional changes:

1) When user selects new resource target it forces it's evaluation, produce result without Delta Membership Update.

2) If user specifies different resource target for web part it can be then edited(It did not allowed to edit resource target).

3) If web part refresh happens when user specifies resource target it will still allow user to complete the resource target selection.

Hi EugeneFT,

I will check if this can be ported back into 7.0 MR release but i cannot confirm or commit to this.  ITMS 7.1 for Monitor 7.1 includes some really nice features.  i will be posting on the Monitor Community a slide deck and video on what's new in Monitor 7.1.  

I have just went thru the Beta install several times and really love the new additional features in both Monitor and Event Console. 

Please once you have tried the beta specifically areas related to monitor please feel free to post them here.

Just a note that this issue is resolved in the upcoming release of ITMS 7.1.  Unfortunatetly due to some of the changes we are unable to backport this to 7.0.

I have create new VirtualDirectory on IIS and create new WEB PART and associate it to new VIEW on NS7.

I change "Resource target" on this new VIEW and i can view two different groups of resources in standard monitoring dashboard and in new monitoring dashboard.

I replicate this workaround to another WEB PART / VIEW but retain "Resource target" of new monitoring dashboard.

Any idea?

With the release of Server Management Suite 7.1 and Monitor 7.1 we have resolved the issue with displaying multiple Resource by Status Web Parts.  Below you can see a sample on showing SQL Servers and Workstations.

Can this be done with multiple servers? I have an application that runs on more than one server and it would be great if we had a portal that had the status of each server involved in the application.

Yes, you can create a resource target containing the servers involved in the application service and then create a Monitored Resource by Status webpart that include only those servers.
