    Hi all,

I have successfully used ghost to create a backup image and restore of a DELL PE 2950 that

    has one large raid5.

Ghost just sees the raid as one large disk and all worked perfectly after restore.

    How ever, I also have a PE2500.

This consists of 1 RAID controller but with the Bios setup there are 2 RAID5's

    1 is 4G RAID5 for OS .

    2 is 30G RAID5 for DATA.

When I boot ghost I get the following  (attached image)

    1 Dell Container v1.0 ( My C Drive)

    2 Dell Container v1.0 ( My D Drive)

3 Seagate portable ( External USB drive for storing the image)

80 OS Volumes (C and D and USB Drive)

My question is what is the best way to get an entire image of everything and restore an image when you have 2 RAIDs ?

I always use create disk to image.

I can only select 1 at a time.

So I created a GHO image of C and a separate GHO image of D.

If restoring do I restore C image first then , somehow , restore d image BESIDE C, (Not on TOP of C ? )

    Any help appreciated

In this case choose OS volume 80 to image both the RAID volumes.Since you are storing the image on USB drive ,choosing OS volume 80 ,will make USB also part of the image and so the USB could not be the destination to store the image.Disconnect USB drive ,choose OS volume and create image over the network,to a network drive (or use Ghost Cast Server).

Hiya and thx for the reply.

Yes what put me off using OS Volume is the fact that it then included the USB destination drive itself which is 100G.

I will try OS Volume 80 backup accross the network to a network drive.

As far as restoring then is it the same procedure as before , Restore image to disk ?

I may also try Ghost Cast server.

While restoring, just choose the disk where you want to restore the image.

    Hiya HungVu,

I used Symantec ghost to create and image of a RAID5 and restore back to another RAID5.

They key thing is that you need to create a ghost winpe boot disc that contains the RAID Drivers (Usually PERC).Drivers can be downloaded from PERC manufacturer websites.

If you create the boot disk correctly then when you boot ghost it will see your RAID5 as just one larger hard disk.

Take an image and restore using same boot disk to another Server.
