  • 1.  Clean Uninstall of Oracle 11.2.0.4.0

    Posted Nov 20, 2017 09:20 AM

We are planning to migrate our DLP Database to New Server with Brand New Install of Oracle 11.2.0.4.0

Problem is, the Oracle was installed on the wrong drive more than a year ago.

How to do clean uninstall? Symantec_DLP_14.5_Oragle_11g_Installation_Upgrade_Guide doesn't explain this.

    Thanks!

There's is this Article on the Connect portal that lists the 23 steps for Oracle installation.

Additionally, the version 14.0 being a base version, the "Symantec_DLP_14.0_Oracle_11g_Installation_Upgrade_Guide.pdf" instead of 14.5/6 guide, should talk about a Oracle New install for 11.2.0.4. Please see attached, the 14.0 Oracle installation guide for your reference:

    Try this method please

    Windows

In the past I've had many problems uninstalling all Oracle products from Windows systems. Here's my last resort method:

    • Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
    • Run regedit.exe and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Oracle key. This contains registry entires for all Oracle products.
    • If you are running 64-bit Windows, you should also delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Oracle key if it exists.
    • Delete any references to Oracle services left behind in the following part of the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*). It should be pretty obvious which ones relate to Oracle.
    • Reboot your machine.
    • Delete the "C:\Oracle" directory, or whatever directory is your ORACLE_BASE.
    • Delete the "C:\Program Files\Oracle" directory.
    • If you are running 64-bit Wiindows, you should also delete the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle" directory.
    • Remove any Oracle-related subdirectories from the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" directory.
    • Empty the contents of your "C:\temp" directory.
    • Empty your recycle bin.

At this point your machine will be as clean of Oracle components as it can be without a complete OS reinstall.

Below is the last resort if the above clean uninstalallation doesn't work

Remember, manually editing your registry can be very destructive and force an OS reinstall so only do it as a last resort.

If some DLLs can't be deleted, try renaming them, the after a reboot delete them

Specifically, for Oracle uninstallation - there is a Oracle KB Article. Please see below:

    https://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32007/deinstall.htm#CIHCHHEH

    1. Ensure that you first follow the instructions in "Stopping Oracle Services on Windows".
    2. Start Oracle Universal Installer. The start procedure depends on which version of Oracle Database Client you installed.
    3. If you installed the Administrator, Runtime, or Custom versions of Oracle Database Client, then Oracle Universal Installer was also installed. From the Start menu, choose Programs, then Oracle - HOME_NAME, then Oracle Installation Products, then Universal Installer. The Welcome window for Oracle Universal Installer appears.

    4. If you installed the Instant Client version of Oracle Database Client, Oracle Universal Installer was not installed. Instead, run it from your installation media or the installation directory you created for downloaded or copied installation files.

To do so, insert Oracle Database installation media and navigate to the client directory. Alternatively, navigate to the directory where you downloaded or copied the installation files. Then double-click setup.exe to start Oracle Universal Installer. In the Welcome window, choose Install/Deinstall Products.

    5. Click the Deinstall Products button.

      The Inventory window appears.

    6. Select the Oracle home you wish to remove. Expand the tree of installed components only if you want to remove selected components of an Oracle home.

For example, if you installed Oracle Database Client with the Runtime option and later installed additional components with the Custom option, then expand the Oracle home component to display all the components installed in the Oracle home.

    7. Check the boxes of components to remove.

    8. Click Remove.

      The Confirmation window appears.

    9. Click Yes to remove the selected components.

      Note:

A message may appear indicating that removing some components may cause other components to not function properly.

After the components are removed from your computer, the Inventory window appears without the removed components.

    10. Click Close to close the Inventory window.

    11. Click Cancel to exit Oracle Universal Installer.

    12. Click Yes to confirm that you want to exit.

    13. After Oracle Universal Installer exits, go to the next section to remove the remaining Oracle Database Client components.

    14. Then restart the computer.
