    Hi,

On a server when I tried starting smc service I get the error message as "Failed to start the Symantec Management Client Service. Error code returned: 0x8007041d". I have even tried reinstalling SEP however the issue still persists.

    Replaced serdef.dat, serstate.dat, cltdef.dat from a working machine. But wasn't helpful.

    Any inputs?

    Hello,

Do you have any other client machine where SEP is installed?

If yes, then Navigate to  C:\Windows\system32 folder  and look for snmpapi.dll

Copy the snmpapi.dll from a working system to C:\Windows\system32 folder of the machine where you have the issue

Then run a repair for the SEP Client.

    Also, check this: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/cannot-load-smcresdll-results-failed-start-symantec-management-client-service-error-code-retu

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi Mithun,

When I replace snmpapi.dll, I get an error message as "it is being used by another person or program". Should I do anything?

    Hello,

Are you logged in locally to the machine OR are you trying to change the file using Remote Desktop?

Make sure you are logged to the machine locally as an Administrator.

If you are logged in to the machine locally, then restart and try again.

    Hope that helps!!
