Trying to install unmanaged on a VISTA business laptop (not added to SBS server yet). It goes so far and just rolls back and tells me to reinstall. Keeps doing this.

    Any advice welcome.

navigate to %temp% and post the SEP_INST log here

Alos, try installing LiveUpdate first, then install SEP. See if that works.

    Disable UAC

and right click on setup.exe and select run as admin, if that fails

post the log file as suggested by pete.

    Navigate to the following

                HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData:

                Change the value=%APPDATA%  to value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\

                Change the value=%APPDATA%  to value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

                Change the value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\ to value=%APPDATA%

    Hi Vikram,

i hope you can help me..

its been for how many days that i have an issue in installing SEP 2011 client, it keeps rolling back the installation.

    these are what i did.

    - I tried CleanWipe
    - AVG unsinstaller tool (AVG- previous AV software installed in client machine)
    - Deleting AVG remnants in Registry.
    - AVG Files and Folders/ and program files.
    - login with administrative account.
    - OS is not able to boot in Safemode

Previously networks clients have AVG installed and we uninstall it to deploy SEP 2011 AV but any installation method (pushing from SEP server manager or Installing manually thru Client Installation Package) is not successfully- its rolling back! not installing.

Some machine are ok but others are not installing.

    Please advice. Thank you.

Navigate to %temp% and post the SEP_INST log here so it can be reviewed

Try installing Liveupdate using LUSETUP.exe and then install SEP using Symantec Antivirus.msi

After launching Symantec Antivirus.msi, you may get an error like..

"Pending system changes that require a reboot have been detected"

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH103109

follow the below article and see if the installation is going trough.

Please let me know if it helped you

    Thanks and Regards,

    KK

Go to start and type Run

    In Run window type %temp%

Look for a file called SEP_Inst.log

In the log file search for Return Value 3

Copy and paste 6-7 lines before this line

Get all the instance of Return Value 3

    Hi Roger,

I will suggest you to open a new discussion and make sure to attach the SEP_INST.log file in that discussion.

It helps to point out reason of failure

you can find the Log file in Start - run -- %temp%\SEP_INST.log

open the log search for "return value 3"

just above the 1st instance of return value 3 you will see the reason of failure.

If you are unable to determine the reason for failure.

Copy 10 lines above firts return value 3 and paste it over here so that we can analyse it.

    Try deleting

    C:\Program files\Common files\Symantec Shared

and remove SPBBCDrv from device manager--show hidden device--Non Plug and Play drivers

Make sure you unzip the SEP CD/DVD before installing the unmanaged client.
