    SEP v14 System Requirements

    In short:
    - v14 SEP Manager requires 64 bit Server OS starting with Windows Server 2008
    - v14 SEP Windows client requires MS Windows Vista and newer

Win XP machines will have to remain with v12.1 clients which can be managed with v14 SEPM
Note: in my experience, v12.1 RU5 client (12.1.5 5337.5000) is the newest version usable on Windows XP. Later v12.1 clients suffer from 'SEP client machines hangs while shutdown' syndrome.

SEP 14 does not support XP. You'll need to stay on 12.1 or get XP removed from the environment.

    See here:

Cannot install Endpoint Protection 14 on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

    Hello,

    • Endpoint Protection 14 is not supported on the Windows XP, Server 2003 and Server 2003 R2 operating systems as they do not meet the requirements. The Endpoint Protection client 14 will only install on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 and later.
    • Installation of Endpoint Protection 14 clients on Windows XP and Server 2003 is blocked by the installer by design.

    Regards,

    Hi _Shk.,

Any OS past Microsoft's EOL growns inherently harder to defend with every patch Tuesday that passes.  Though it was fine in its day, in 2017 I would not trust anything of importance to WinXP and would not let WinXP map to or access anything that needs to be kept secure.

Please do mark this thread as solved if you have received your answer, or update it with any additional questions.

Does Symantec have an EOL on supporting 32-bit operating systems? We're on 12.1.6 Ru5 and if this OS becomes unsupported we're going to have to get a project plan in place to upgrade a group of machines that are running on this old arch. I won't be able to upgrade our SEPMs to 14 until that point...
