CA 1® Tape Management Incremental Release 14.0, Delivers first PTFs!

Aug 31, 2015 12:36 PM

As part of CA’s Incremental Release Program, the CA 1 Tape Management product team delivers its first Incremental Release PTFs for CA 1 Version 14.  CA 1 PTF RO83249 and co-requisite Common Tape System PTF RO83248, also referred to as INC01, include two exciting new features and several enhancements to existing components.

TMC Replication

The capability to replicate the Tape Management Catalog (TMC) from one system or location to one or more remote active data centers has been added.   TMC replication allows customers to resume secure tape processing in the event of a failure with minimal downtime by utilizing a Shadow copy of the TMC at a remote location, supporting a faster Recovery Time Objective.  TMC replication is applicable to customers deploying multiple, active data centers. Up to 31 active data centers may participate in a TMC replication configuration or TapePlex.

New Backup TMC Objects in CA GMI and CA Vantage Interface

Users can more conveniently examine volumes and files from specific backup checkpoints to assist in audits and chargeback processes using an enhanced CA GMI and CA Vantage SRM user interface.  Two new read-only objects, Backup TMC Files and Backup TMC Volumes, are presented in the CA 1 object list in CA GMI and CA Vantage SRM.  Shadow TMCs created by the TMC Replication feature can also be viewed using the Backup TMC Objects, as can the active TMC or a TMC backup created by TMSCOPY or IEBGENER.  CA Vantage SRM 12.6 PTF RO82672 is also required to provide support for the new Backup TMC Objects.

IBM z/OS 2.2 Support

The CA 1 tape intercepts have been updated to support the new IBM z/OS 2.2 operating system.

EAV Compliancy

CA 1 programs using IBM macros sensitive to Extended Addressability Volume placement have been updated to be EAV compliant, removing them from the IBM Migration Tracker Report.    However, the CA 1 TMC and AUDIT files themselves cannot be placed in the cylinder addressed area of an EAV device.

Improved DSNB Displays

The Block Count field for DSNB displays in ISPF and the TMSBINQ and TMSAUDIT reports have been increased to 10 characters for improved readability.

Pseudo-slot number of 9999999 Assigned to all Virtual Volumes

The Vaulting system has been enhanced to assign a pseudo-slot number of 9999999 to all virtual volumes in TMS vaulting reports for improved customized views.

These PTFs also resolve various problems reported in the 12.6 release and the CA 1 14.0 base delivery (INC00).
