Tech Tip from Karina Pulinx, Principal Support Engineer for November 2, 2016.
This is another in the series of tips for CA Datacom Core Products Version 15.1 enhancement PTF RO92259.
RO92259 delivers 10 new features.
One of these new features is DBUTLTY function DATASCAN OPTION=SIZE_AREA.
Use this option to find out the extent size needed if the current data area is to be backed up in physical order and loaded into the area at either the same block size or a different block size. The value that was provided might be off if the actual data rows change after the report due to the following conditions:
-If the area has any table that was stored as compressed
-If it has multiple tables of a different stored size
This function does not lock rows or have any roadblock to running with normal MUF execution activities.
The database index is required and the data area needs to be opened and accessed by the MUF.
Example
Running DBUTLTY DATASCAN DBID=999,AREA=TRN,OPTION=SIZE_AREA,BLKSIZE=8192
gives
* DBID 999 AREA TRN REQUEST COMPLETE
BLOCK SIZE CURRENT 4,096 BLOCK SIZE NEW 8,192
ESTIMATED - BLOCKS 96,883 TRACKS 16,148 CYLINDERS 1,077
BLOCKS READ 195,838 TABLE ROWS 2,134,499 DELETED ROWS 0 OTHER ROWS 0
