We are pleased to announce our most recent addition to Gen v8.6: Consuming REST APIs for COBOL/Batch applications. With this functionality, your Gen applications can consume information available via RESTful services. Many customers are excited for this opportunity to:

    • Create seamless interactions between applications.

    • Offer enhanced functionality with access to real-time data.

    • Modernize user experiences and enterprise infrastructure.

***BONUS: This publication also enables consuming REST APIs for applications in Compatibility Mode (CICS and COBOL/Batch). This was a request submitted in through the Community Ideas HERE. ***

You can find the solutions here:

    Scope includes:

    • Consuming RESTful services for COBOL/Batch applications

      • includes methods: Get, Post, Put, Delete

      • includes DB2 Attach Types: DB2_DSN, EXEC (or NONE)

      • includes support for applications IN COMPATIBILITY MODE

      • includes support for Security Schemes: BasicAuth, BearerAuth, ApiKeyAuth, Oauth2-Client Credential Flow

      • includes configuration parameters to allow certain settings to be dynamically set in your PAD logic

    • Consuming RESTful services for CICS applications IN COMPATIBILITY MODE.

      • This functionality without Compatibility Mode is already published in January 2022. You can learn more in the community announcement HERE

    Coming Soon*:

    • DB2 Attach Types: DLIBATCH and IMS_BMP

    • the capability to specify configuration overrides in a file, similar to the callrest.properties file for Java applications

    • support for TSOAE for testing

It is our intent to expand to other languages/platforms, add additional methods, and provide further enhancements based on user feedback. Within the "Add a Call REST Statement" documentation on TechDocs is a section called "OpenAPI Spec Caveat for Gen". This documentation describes the constructs within an OpenAPI specification that Gen does not support.  We're eager to hear what functionality you want next. Please send feedback to me: Kim.Peelman@broadcom.com or post in the Ideas section for Gen

*This is a forward-looking statement. This is subject to change at any time without notice.  The development, release, and timing remain at Broadcom's sole discretion.
