    Hello, View Customers!

I am pleased to announce that we have released a PTF (LU12606) which provides 4 new features for the View product. Read about this exciting new functionality below:

This PTF provides new informational status messages that will be written by the View started task, the View backup cycle, and the SARDBASE STATUS command. These messages will include the index and data file utilization, database statistic information that previously only appeared in online status, and additional overall statistics for the View backup cycle.

    New Modify Status Command:
The View started task will support a new modify STATUS command (F SARSTC,STATUS) to display the index and data file utilization as well as the total number of reports in the database and the total number of reports on disk. The messages for the modify STATUS command will be written to the job and system logs. Below are samples of the new messages issued with the modify STATUS command.

    SARSTC01  VIEW.SYSTEM1 Index file(s) at 45% utilization
    SARSTC02  VIEW.SYSTEM1 Data file(s) at 72% utilization
    SARSTC03  VIEW.SYSTEM1 has 125,256 total reports
    SARSTC04  VIEW.SYSTEM1 has 12,109 reports on disk

The SARSTC03 and SARSTC04 messages may not be issued if database statistics (SARDBASE SET STATS) are not being recorded.

    New Backup Cycle Messages:
The View backup cycle will also include status messages that detail the index and data file utilization, the total number of reports in the View database, the total number of reports on disk, the total number of reports that were backed up to tape, the total number of reports deleted, and the total number of tapes that were expired. The backup cycle messages will be written to the job and system logs. Below are samples of the new messages issued during the backup cycle.

    Before Backup Cycle Runs:
SARBKT01  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 started with Index file(s) at 45% utilization
SARBKT02  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 started with Data file(s) at 72% utilization
SARBKT03  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 started with 125,256 total reports
SARBKT04  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 started with 12,109 reports on disk

    After Backup Cycle Runs:
SARBKT91  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with Index file(s) at 42% utilization
SARBKT92  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with Data file(s) at 65% utilization
SARBKT93  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with 121,178 total reports
SARBKT94  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with 10,424 reports on disk
SARBKT95  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with 2,327 reports backed up to tape
SARBKT96  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with 3,925 reports deleted
SARBKT97  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended with 12 tapes expired

Note that during the backup cycle, new reports may be collected into the database, and total reports from the start of the backup cycle minus the number of reports deleted during the backup cycle may not match the total reports at the end of the backup cycle.

The SARBKT03, SARBKT04, SARBKT93, and SARBKT94 messages may not be issued if database statistics (SARDBASE SET STATS) are not being recorded.

Include Database Name In Backup Cycle Messages:
A few existing backup cycle messages have been changed to include the database name. Below are samples of those messages.

SARBKT00  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 started for Gen 11547 on 01/23/2024 at 14:32:38
SARBKT99  Standard backup cycle VIEW.SYSTEM1 ended for Gen 11547 on 01/23/2024 at 15:13:42
    SARBKT9A  Current generation VIEW.SYSTEM1is now 11548

Three new Messages (Total Reports, Total Reports on Disk, Total Lines on Disk) shown for SARDBASE STATUS

The SARDBASE STATUS command will now include 3 additional messages in the Index file statistics section that indicate the total number of reports in the database, the total number of reports on disk, and the total number of lines on disk. These messages will only be displayed when database statistics (SARDBASE SET STATS) are being recorded. Below are samples of those messages included in the Index file statistics of SARDBASE STATUS.
