  • 1.  Dataset Encryption

We are probably a little late to the datset encrpyption area, but we are taking a look at it now and have some questions related to how other's are determinning or deciding how to create keys. Are other's using a new key for every new dataset that requires encryption? That could potentially be many, many new keys, could be in the thousands, depending on how many datasets will actually require encryption. Does anyone have a philosophy as to how to possibly group datasets in one or maybe a certain group of keys? Would probably be an administrative nightmare to have to create a new key for every single dataset that requires encryption. Any thoughts, would to hear what folks thoughts on this are...

I know nothing - nothing do I know - but since no one else is saying anything about this, I'll just mention the first thought that occurred to me back when you asked, which is that you might need an encryption key not for every dataset but for every application.  Or if you need to break an application into various classifications, maybe one for each app-and-classification combination.  But if you disagree, see my opener.
