Level Set PTF 15.0.07 (LU12631) for the Common Components and Services for z/OS is now available.

The following list summarizes the features that are delivered by applying the Level Set PTF.

Note: For more information about these features, see Level Set 15.0.07 in the Release Notes in the Common Components and Services for z/OS documentation.

    • Java 11 Support in ESM Microservice

The ESM Microservice now supports Java 11 for z/OS. Java 11 introduces several enhancements over the Java 8 implementation, including better execution performance. For the complete list of improvements, see the IBM documentation.

The ESM Microservice now adds the IBMJCECCA provider dynamically. Because uncommenting the IBMJCECCA provider in the ESMMS.java.security file is no longer necessary, the ESMMS.java.security file has been deprecated.

    • OpenSSL 3.0 Support

The CAICCI/PC application (CCIPC) now supports OpenSSL 3.0. This application is used on PCs to enable mainframe-to-PC communication. Using OpenSSL 3.0 to sign and verify your TLS certificates ensures that you continue to receive security fixes for any vulnerabilities that are discovered. Security fixes are no longer provided for OpenSSL 1.1.1, which reached End of Life (EOL) on September 11, 2023.

    • CCS Apache Tomcat Upgrade

The CCS Apache Tomcat version has been upgraded to 9.0.80. Keeping this software current ensures that you have the latest functionality and protects you from security vulnerabilities.

    • Java 11 Support in the Message Service

The Message Service now provides full support for Java 11 for z/OS. Java 11 introduces several enhancements over the Java 8 implementation, including better execution performance and improved security with support for TLS 1.3. For the complete list of improvements, see the IBM documentation.

    • New CAIREST SMP/E RESTORE GROUPEXTEND Utility

A new SMP/E RESTORE GROUPEXTEND utility is now provided in hlq.CAW0JCL(CAIREST) to help systems programmers RESTORE (back out) applied maintenance packages in the target libraries. This utility provides RESTORE processing that is similar to the SMP/E APPLY GROUPEXTEND option, which automatically includes other SYSMODs that might be missing or correcting SYSMODs held in error. Use the CAIREST utility to specify the SYSMODs that you want to restore. The utility generates JCL to restore the specified SYSMODs and determines the requisite SYSMODs without the time-intensive, error prone, iterative processing that is typically required using the SMP/E RESTORE command alone.

    • New CAISMPH HOLDDATA Query Utility

A new SMP/E CSI system HOLDDATA query utility is now provided in hlq.CAW0JCL(CAISHOLD). This utility lets you query SMP/E CSIs and generate a customized SMP/E System HOLDDATA Report. The report strips out duplicate system hold text and presents you with a streamlined list of instructions for each group of actions. Systems programmers can use this report to simplify the process of installing product maintenance.

    • Updated z/OSMF Configuration Workflow

The z/OSMF configuration workflow for Common Components and Services has been updated to include CCS Apache Tomcat. The workflow is a browser-based user interface that automates and streamlines many of the required tasks. This workflow benefits experienced systems programmers and installers with less expertise.

    • Updated Broadcom ISV Product Catalog

The ISV catalog for Broadcom products has been updated to include unlicensed mainframe components that Broadcom provides free of charge, such as the Common Components and Services or SYSVIEW Essentials. The ISV catalog uniquely identifies our mainframe products and components to the IBM Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). When you generate a Broadcom ISV SCRT report, unlicensed components are now included. Reviewing the components that are listed in your reports helps you determine whether you are using them and getting the most value out of your products. Broadcom can also use this information to determine whether our components are useful for you.

    -- Addendum --

Level Set 15.0.07 also includes the following feature:

    • Java 17 Support in Java to z/OS (J2Z) Service (LU11196)

The J2Z service now supports Java 17 for z/OS. Java 17 introduces several enhancements over the Java 11 implementation, including faster execution performance. For the complete list of improvements, see the IBM documentation.
