Frequently Asked Questions: 
Does Gen have a Vitality Residency Program? As of 4/20/23  Gen does not have a Vitality program, but we're working on it. We need to know that customers will partner with us to hire Gen students from the Vitality progam. If you are interested, email [e-mail] and [e-mail].

Would a Gen Vitality Program only teach about the mainframe side of Gen? NO. One of the most unique benefits of Gen is the ability to support a hybrid architecture, both mainframe and non-mainframe platforms. A Gen Vitality curriculum would be created with that as a foundational tenant.

What is included in Mainframe Essentials? 

There is a ton included in Mainframe Essentials; choice features from Mainframe Resource Intelligence (MRI), Resiliency Insights, Software Toolkit Plug-In for z/OSMF, and SYSVIEW Essentials. My current favorite feature is Software Risk Assessment, which shows you which mainframe PTFs you have, which you don't have, a risk rating, and other helpful information (blog here). Do I require licenses for SYSVIEW and MRI to use Mainframe Essentials?

No. We packaged these lightweight versions to offer in Mainframe Essentials so customers don't have to worry about additional costs for basic functionality necessary for mainframe maintenance. Your Gen licenses are all you need to get Mainframe Essentials at no additional cost.

Where do I get these Mainframe Essentials tools?

In your support portal, go to where you access the Gen installation. Look for "Additional Downloads". Click to expand "Mainframe Essentials". You will see a list of all the installs that you now have at no additional cost.
