Db2 Tools

  • 1.  Is there anything to be aware of when upgrading from R18 to R19?

We currently running CA Database Tools R18 and thinking about upgrading to next CA release. That is R19. Just wondering if there is anything that we should be aware of when pulling the software.

Maybe one note, make sure you download INC01 - "increment 1" - which consolidates a large number of development PTFs.

    Hello Donnie,

There are a number of technical docs you might find of interest regarding r19: TEC1669052, TEC1497535, TEC1865323 and TEC1242916. After selecting product pages for "CA Database Management Solutions for DB2 for z/OS", enter "r19' in the Search box and select the Knowledge Base tab. It should list 11 tech docs, and the above should be in the list.

Another consideration is that the maintenance procedure has changed. Unlike r18, where you have access to a ptf maintenance file labelled "Since GA", and contains all PTFs published since r18 went GA, no such file exists for r19.

You have to select all individual maintenance ptfs for the release, have the site package them into a .zip file, then download and process the file according to the instructions on our site. You can use the CAUNZIP Common Services utility to assist you with the process. You can find a link to a document about this utility on the Download Center main page, under the Download Help side menu on the right.

You can limit the number of ptfs to only include those published past a certain date. After the initial download of the r19 INC01 product files, use Jan 12, 2016 to pick up all ptfs published since INC01 was originally built. For the next round, use the date you last pulled down all the ptfs.
