In January 2020, a global primary command DB2L was introduced via SO10173, which displays the Db2 continuous delivery runtime values of catalog level, function level, and prior function level in case of fallback. The DB2L command also displays the catalog/function or version/mode values that have been specified in the SETUPxx CDBAPARM member, which need to be in sync with the runtime values. This feature helps our L1 support team and customers to identify problems with mismatched SETUPxx and runtime values more easily.

As DB2L is a global primary command, it can be used from (almost) any product panel within the CA Database Management Solutions for DB2 for z/OS.

    The online command:

    Output panel of DB2L:

In the output panel, the left column (DB2) shows the runtime values from the subsystem, while the right column (SETUPxx) shows the values in the SETUP member. The SETUP values are displayed even if you are not connected to that subsystem.

Now in January 2021, we have enhanced this feature via SO15980 to enable execution of the DB2L command through the batch processor interface.

The DB2L command can be executed in batch using the .CALL Batch Processor command, which provides the same results of the online global DB2L command.

Below are two ways to execute the DB2L command in batch environment.

Method 1: Display the continuous delivery levels of the currently connected Db2 subsystem through .CONNECT ssid

    Batch output 1:

Note: In this method, the .CONNECT ssid statement does not have to be right before the .CALL DB2L command.

Method 2: Display the continuous delivery levels of multiple Db2 subsystems between .DATA and .ENDDATA block

    Batch output 2:

In this method, if there is a .CONNECT ssid statement before .CALL DB2L, the ssid in .CONNECT will be ignored for output.
As DB2L is only a reporting facility to display the Db2 continuous delivery levels, the maximum return code in case of errors/warnings in batch environment is 4 and continues to execute the remaining batch processor statements.

Thanks Jeff. Please find the DB2L enhancement to display the code level in the latest blog.
