CA Log Analyzer vs dropped objects in Db2

We all know that dropping a table in production can wake people up on a sleepy morning (or any time), and we all fear we would need to do this manually in the event of an emergency, but good news is that you won't have to fear the latter and we've got you covered with CA Log Analyzer, but how so?

Dropped Object Recovery is one of the valuable services you have within your grasp with CA Log Analyzer, and it will save you from the painful experience of performing this recovery by yourself.

What do you need to use this feature?

Simply by specifying the name of the dropped object, and the time interval when the object was dropped, CA Log Analyzer will retrieve all information necessary for its recovery:

    • Information from the Db2 Catalog.
    • Information about previous Image Copies.

*As a reminder, we encourage you to enable DATA CAPTURE CHANGES over certain Db2 Catalog tables. The details can be found here, under the section "Capture Log Activity":

What happens after the object is restored?

Customizable through the recovery options, CA Log Analyzer also offers to generate the following steps for you, to be executed after the recovery is done:

    • Creation of an Image Copy.
    • Recover statistics or execute RUNSTATS utility.
    • Generate REBIND statements for packages that were invalidated due to this previous drop.

Where can I read more about Dropped Object Recovery?

We have a full tutorial with detailed information and even alternatives, found here in the official documentation:

Additionally, we have a video describing the process:

We're constantly developing enhancements into this feature to ensure a smooth recovery from the most challenging scenarios.

If you would like to know more about this feature or you would like to discuss how we can meet your needs, don't hesitate to reach out. We'll be happy to work for your needs.
