CA IDMS z/OSMF Portable Packages
This z/OSMF Portable Package delivers additional capabilities, including all maintenance updates through November 3, 2020.
CA IDMS 19.0 is the first release of CA IDMS to support installation using IBM z/OSMF. CA IDMS 19.0 is packaged as a portable software instance (portable package) for z/OSMF processing.
Broadcom, IBM, and other major mainframe vendors have aligned on a new z/OS platform installation strategy, utilizing a consistent way to acquire, install, configure, and maintain software on the z/OS platform. This allows everyone to benefit from the simplified dialog-driven PTF installation for SMP/E service in z/OSMF Software Management.
What is z/OSMF?
- IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF) is a web server for z/OS management applications.
- User interface through a browser. Security is implemented using standard z/OS SAF-based authorization.
- Provides integrated applications (tasks) with the capability to add additional plug-ins.
- Provides public RESTful services for z/OSMF and z/OS resources.
- z/OSMF is a base element of z/OS since z/OS V2.2.
Managing software on the Mainframe platform has become increasingly more challenging over the years. The new installation strategy is aimed towards the next generation of Mainframe Systems Programmers. Standardizing the way software is managed across the platform represents the first major step towards eliminating challenges, simplifying software management in general, and opening the door for the next generation of System Programmers.
z/OSMF offers more than just a new and common way of configuring mainframe products driven by a wizard-like experience with full control in the UI. It also offers REST APIs that allow tools such as Zowe CLI to call z/OSMF. That way, it can enable complete automation of software configuration.
The new era of mainframe software management is here. We are stepping away from green screen to replace it with modern tools just like any other platform.
