The CA Technologies team has been busy making their mainframe product user documentation available to the public. This means mainframe user documentation can be found via the popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo. As the mainframe team continues to make more documentation available to the public do you think you will take advantage of accessing CA’s mainframe documentation via Google and Yahoo?

    Bill,
    Thanks for starting this thread.

Hello to everyone in the Mainframe Storage Community! I’ve been with CA for many years, but new to the Storage team as of this summer. As the Information Architect for Mainframe Storage, I’m in charge of the technical documentation and making sure all the information we have gets to you, our users, efficiently as possible. Making our documentation publicly available is the first step, and we have more exciting changes in store for the next year. As of today, the following documentation sets are available without having to log in to CA Support Online:
    • CA Vantage SRM
    • CA 1 Tape Management (the Programming Guide remains confidential)
    • CA Vtape Virtual Tape System
    • CA TLMS Tape Management
    • CA Copycat Utility
    • CA HyperBUF VSAM Buffer Optimizer
    • CA FAVER VSAM Data Protection
    • CA Tape Encryption
    • CA CREWS Catalog Recovery

We are working to make CA Disk Backup and Restore and CA Allocate DASD Space and Placement available soon.

Search Tip: When using your search engine, type in the full product name and then “bookshelf” on the end. For example, CA 1 Tape Management bookshelf. As the search engine crawlers pick up the searches, the bookshelf files will work their way to the top of search results, even when not using bookshelf. However, adding bookshelf to your search guarantees you’ll always find the latest product bookshelf.

If you would like to see where we are heading, check out the CA Answer Bar! The CA Answer Bar breaks down information silos that, in the past, were difficult to navigate. It gives you a streamlined, user-friendly interface where you can find all product-related information, not just technical documentation.

If you have any feedback, questions, or suggestions for how we can improve your searches for information on our CA websites, please let me know!

Keep in mind that public content enables other ways of sharing content such as via FLIPBOARD.  For those of you that have not yet looked, download the FLIPBOARD app on your IPAD and search for CA Technologies Information Services.  CA now has 9 magazines out there with over 2600 users.

Note:  FLIPBOARD is a news aggregator that has over 100m users and is growing fast.

Here is a link to a YouTube video describing the easy steps to install FLIPBOARD and subscribe to the CA Technologies Information Services “cookbooks.”
