    Question:

IBM's z/OS 1.12 first introduced CA RECLAIM which reuses empty Control Areas (CAs) for VSAM KSDS, AIX and Catalogs datasets. Is there is anything to be concerned about activating this IBM component when it comes to CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation's VSAM files?

II14640: INFO APAR TO DOCUMENT AND CLARIFY CA RECLAIM SETTINGS FAQ

CA RECLAIM was released with z/OS 1.12. CA RECLAIM is designed to actively manage the Control Areas (CAs) within a VSAM data set that did contain records at one point in time, but have been emptied by ERASE requests on all of the records. CA RECLAIM sets these CAs to be reused whenever possible and is a planned improvement to to overall VSAM processing.

CA RECLAIM applies to VSAM KSDSes, AIXes and Catalogs. There is no CA RECLAIM processing for ESDS, RRDS, VRRDS or LINEAR data sets.

    Answer:

We are not aware of any issues with CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation and IBM's CA RECLAIM. OPAMSVDB is the only VSAM KSDS file we have and it is an optional dataset. Unless a known issue is identified, it will have no effect on the CA OPS/MVS product.
