  • 1.  DB2 IFCID 225 moving to SMF 100 - MICS support opportunity

    Posted Jun 21, 2011 09:38 AM
A while back, IBM announced that IFCID 225 was being incorporated into an SMF type 100 (STATISTICS TRACE CLASS 1),
new subtype 4, moving from an existing SMF type 102 data-capture (a data source not supported today by MICS DB2 Analyzer).

Hopefully there are MICS DB2 Analyzer clients out there with DB2 SYSPROGs who have interest in this type of information, especially if it can be added to MICS?

Consider discussing this topic-opportunity with your DB2 tech staff and then contact CA MICS Support (open an issue online or call) to voice your interest with having this useful information added to MICS.

Also, do whatever you can to get your DB2 SYSPROGs to decrease the DB2 ZPARM STATIME (monitoring interval) down to 5 minutes and maybe even lower, say to 1 minute -- the SMF 100 data-volume impact is quite minimal, yet the enhanced metrics in the MICS DB2 info area is significant.

    Hello again,

Apparently, CA has not moved on this request to incorporate IFCID 0225 support for the MICS DB2 Analyzer. Users and their MICS administrators are strongly encouraged to contact CA MICS Support if your site wants to see these useful stats added to the MICS DB2DSY file.

Update: CA recently delivered MICS DB2 component support for the IFCID 0225 metrics being moved from the SMF 102 to the SMF 100. The PTF can be accessed/requested via CA SUPPORT ONLINE.
