CA Tuesday Tip from Kevin Shuma , VP Product Management ,  for January 21 , 2014

With CA Datacom Version 14.0 we have added the SIMPLIFY feature that adds significant protection and

additional functionality to the CA Datacom environment.

All CA Datacom/AD sites run SIMPLIFY in order to get all of these benefits.

We strongly recommend that CA Datacom/DB sites run SIMPLIFY also.

However one of the first things that you will hit is that DBUTLTY jobs need the Datacom Multi-User facility (MUF)

up (enabled) in order to insure that all the requested DBUTLTY functions are working in concert with the MUF.

The MUF is the only updater of the directory (CXX)  and is in complete control with full knowledge of all the on-going activities.

This may present a problem for you as an existing CA Datacom/DB site where there are

regularly scheduled DBUTLTY processes that run while MUF is down.

While having MUF down is not required, it is just part of the basic operational implementation.

SIMPLIFY is still a good choice .  In order to allow the DBUTLTY processes to execute while MUF is down , you only need to add the

control card SET OPTION1=MUF_NOT_ENABLED to the front of each DBUTLTY control card set that processes while MUF is down.

If the process runs during a time where the Multi-User facility may or may not be up, the control card can be set to

    SET OPTION1=MUF_ENABLED_OR_DISABLED.

For more information on this option and how to operate DBUTLTY functions

with the CA Datacom environment in SIMPLIFY mode
