  • 1.  Can ESP FTP jobs be a single solution for File Transfers?

Does anyone use only ESP for a file transfer solution? Is it robust enough and secure enough to handle all of your file transfer needs? We have not used ESP for file transfers yet and were wondering if it was capable of replacing a product like Connect Direct or MQ/FTE. Anyone have a pros and cons to their ESP FTP setup?

    Thanks

    Leo,

We are getting more and more into using agents for FTP.  Although we do not have any FTP jobs in production as of yet, our tests have gone well.  In our case, we have mandates that require other technologies for doing external file transfers, so any transfers we use this for will more than likely consist of internal transfers only.

My advice would be to grab some test machines (be sure to represent all platforms), install some agents, go through the process of getting them configured for FTP, schedule some jobs, and make a decision based on your results and also any requirements that your organization has for file transfer technologies or methodologies.

We use ESP FTP for all file transfers except those going out or coming into the company.  For those we use MoveIt.  We have used the ESP FTP for both test and production for a few years with no issues.  We do add an automatic resubmit on the FTP's so that if there is a file contention the job will automatically resubmit itself in 1, 3, o5 5 minutes.

Do you use SSL or SFTP functionality or just the standard FTP with no encryption?
