  • 1.  "PUB" type elib delta hitting a wall at 5500 cyls

    Posted Mar 18, 2015 01:29 AM

I'm having trouble with one elib delta used by a type called PUB.  the reverse pds has no problems, but the vsam delta will not expand beyond 5500 cylinders. I'm working with my dasd team as 5800 cyls is the maximum I can allocate any elib vsam or BDAM. Looking at these puppies they appear to be binary or compiled in nature, so I wanted to know a better format thatn reverse?  LOG or IMAGE? Looking for suggestions.

    Hi Karen,

Have your storage people mentioned EXTENDED ADDRESSABILITY.

5500 cylinders is in my rough calculations (((((849960 bytes per cyl * 5500 cyls) /1024 to kb) / 1024 to mb) / 1024 to gb) is the 4 gigabyte limit.

To go beyond that you need to enable VSAM extended addressability.

Luckily Endevor 15.1 introduced the support for VSAM EA :-)

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Stuart.

I knew I could count on you for instant feedback! Thanks.  Having “slept” on it.  I got around the issue by allocating a huge 7000 cyl pdse.  The user confimed these are binary executables are binary executables and no compare/history is needed.  Sounds like a good candidate for LOG delta?  I’ll reach out to you for particulars after Alan and I have a change to play with it on our test LPAR.

Thank heavens for model 27s & 54s to allocate big pds/e datasets :-)

This is exactly what log delta was designed for.
Do you have CM EW? If you do then you will need the latest efix to see log delta levels.
