We are pleased to announce a new PAX file for Gen 8.6 Level 2111 on z/OS, replacing the original GA 8.6 Level 0000 on z/OS. This PAX file simplifies your Gen upgrade to v8.6. This installation provides you with the enhancements in Gen 8.6 on z/OS up to October 31, 2021, including:

    • Software built with upgraded compilers (details here)
    • ECI middleware enabling larger than 32k cooperative flow with CICS containers (details here)
    • Support for DB2 universal call attach (DSNULI) (details here)

After installing this PAX file you will be ready for more Gen enhancements, like:

    • Consuming REST APIs in Gen's CICS applications (details here
    • Consuming REST APIs in Gen's Batch applications (coming 2022*)

*This is a forward looking statement. This is subject to change at any time without notice. The development, release, and timing remain at Broadcom's sole discretion.

You can find the solution here:

Download the PAX file using one of the following methods, as documented in Tech Docs section Installing Gen on z/OS:

    • CSM
      • Download the software from http://support.broadcom.com using CSM.
      • Start the installation process from the SMP/E Environments tab in CSM.
    • Pax ESD
      • Download the software from http://support.broadcom.com using Pax-Enhanced Electronic Software Delivery (Pax ESD).
      • Install the product manually using SAMPJCL or use the Add Product option in CSM.

    Additional documentation in Tech Docs:

    Note:

    • This PAX file is intended for customers doing a new Gen 8.6 install.
    • Customers who have installed Gen 8.6 Level 0000 on z/OS and are current on their maintenance PTFs do not need to install this PAX file. This PAX file is a brand new install and cannot be installed on top of Gen 8.6; Level 0000.
    • This software requires that Language Environment be updated and targets Architecture level 10.  Please read the Release Notes thoroughly.
    • This PAX file is not the correct format to be installed in z/OSMF. That solution will be delivered later in 2022*
    • In 2019 we announced that Broadcom products, including Gen, would be adopting a Continuous Delivery model. This is similar to the previous Incremental Release strategy, but with fewer barriers for customers and even more emphasis on delivering value early in smaller pieces that enable customers to supervise and minimize impact to their business. For more information regarding Continuous Delivery, check out this article and this webcast.
