    We are pleased to announce an upgrade to the Gen 8.6 Runtime, now built with COBOL 6.2, C/C++ 2.2, and Db2 V12.

    This upgrade is delivered via enhancement PTFs that require updated third-party software as documented in Gen 8.6 Tech Docs.

    You can find the solution here:

    • Gen's Mainframe Solution Downloads
      • Select your Gen 8.6 product.
      • See "UPGRADE C, C++, COBOL AND DB2 FOR GENERATORS AND RUNTIMES"  for LU01883, LU01884, LU01885, LU01886, LU01887, LU01888, LU01889, and LU01908.

    Additional documentation is available on Tech Docs:

    • This does not change the support of third-party products certified for Gen applications.
    • This is part 3 of 3 in our work to upgrade the compilers and Db2. Announcements for previous releases are here: Part 1 Host Encyclopedia and Part 2 z/OS Implementation Toolset
    • These enhancement PTFs deliver Gen components re-built targeting hardware architecture level 10 and Third-Party software using new versions of DB2 and compilers. Historically this type of change would have been provided as a new release, ie. Gen 8.7. However, with our adoption of a CD strategy, we are delivering these changes in small increments via PTF(s) to Gen 8.6.
      • Please read the Release Notes and Technical Requirements closely to assess the impact to your environment.
      • In 2019 we announced that Broadcom products, including Gen, would be adopting a Continuous Delivery model. This is similar to the previous Incremental Release strategy, but with fewer barriers for customers and even more emphasis on delivering value early in smaller pieces that enable customers to supervise and minimize impact to their business. For more information regarding Continuous Delivery, check out this article and this webcast.
