Microsoft Visual Studio Build Tools 2017 now supported for CA Gen 8.6

By Rob_T posted 11-29-2018 02:23 PM

MS Visual Studio Build Tools 2017 are now supported for use with CA Gen 8.6. MS Build Tools allow the creation of Windows applications without the use of the full MS Studio installation.

The Visual Studio Build Tools 2017 can be used to build CA Gen 8.6 generated applications for blockmode, GUI, and cooperative C applications, ASP.NET web clients, and .NET proxies.

PTFs BTN86113, BTN86115, CCN86104, RTA86107, RTN86117, and TSN86116 are required.

Best Regards,

Rob Thompson

The Gen 8.6 Technical Requirements has been updated, which is located at the following link.

Third-Party Software Version - CA Gen - 8.6 - CA Technologies Documentation

The Compiler section includes Visual Studio 2017 and the Note section contains the options that are supported.

Hi Martin,

I think Rob inadvertently forgot to include COM Proxies but I believe the C Runtime PTF RTN86117/SS06096 to fix user exit build problems for VS2017 would also apply to COM proxies because they share the same C/C++ user exits:

Configuring and Deploying the COM Proxy Runtime - CA Gen - 8.6 - CA Technologies Documentation
