Latest RC/Query enhancement: Multi-Object HDDL Generation

By Srinivas Adupa posted Nov 14, 2023 01:10 PM

We are thrilled to announce another enhancement to our RC/Query that brings a new level of flexibility and efficiency to users— the ability to generate HDDL for multiple objects.

Traditionally, RC/Query limited HDDL operations to a single object at a time, posing constraints on users when dealing with multiple objects of a similar type. The intricate nature of object creation made it challenging to produce HDDL outputs for multiple objects.

However, with our latest update, we have successfully overcome this limitation, empowering users to perform HDDL on more than one object of similar type seamlessly in both Online and Batch regions. This additional functionality of RC/Query enhances user experience by reducing the manual and repeated work.

Key Advantages of the Enhanced RC/Query Multi-Object HDDL Generation:

1.            Increased Efficiency: Users can now execute HDDL operations on multiple objects simultaneously, significantly boosting efficiency. This enhancement streamlines workflows by eliminating the need to perform HDDL tasks sequentially for each object.

2.            Executable Output: The generated output is presented in an executable form, eliminating the additional step of arranging objects in a sorted order. This not only saves time but also ensures that the output is immediately ready for implementation.

3.            Simplified Workflow: The complexity associated with handling multiple objects of similar types has been mitigated. Users can seamlessly integrate HDDL generation into their processes without the hassle of intricate manual arrangements.

Below are the screenshots on how to perform HDDL on multiple objects through RC/Query:

1.       Providing HDDL as a line command for multiple tables from RC/Query

Note that all these tables are under the same database and Storage group. Ideally, we would expect the DDLs for DB and SG for only once (so that DDL can be executed successfully).

Now, in the below panel, we are providing all the required object types (so that we can get the DDLs for these objects – once).

Below is the 1st page of output (DDL is still continued below):

Now, let us look at Batch job:

Observe the OBJTYPE, CREATOR and NAME are included in the control card parameters.

Submitting this job will also produce the same output as in online mode.
