HP Rapid Deployment Pack in Action

Oct 29, 2007 04:25 PM

Our government-sector customer had a problem installing and rolling out servers quickly enough to respond to requests from the various offices they have responsibility for. The problem is that each blade needed to get the right (usually custom) installation at the right time to be ready for delivery.

The Solution We Came Up With

With the HP rapid deployment pack we created a solution that enabled the customer to get servers on line quickly. This also often included switching between a Windows or a Linux setup for the task. In a normal situation, if a server has Windows on it, it takes over two hours to prepare it for a Linux package. In the new situation this task is done without any extra knowledge or training of the system administrators, and everybody was able to do it in just 20 minutes.

Our Savings

There was no study for return on investment, but if they did, savings were captured by requiring less training, study, and figuring out how to do stuff. Time was also saved by not having to travel back and forth from the server room that was located about 5 KM from the system administrators office.

The customer is now able to do remotly rapid deployment and configure them for they're job.

I think that they have a ROI of about 26 weeks, because it is now easier, quicker, and more manageble for them to do the job.
