CRITICAL ALERT 2640, Symantec AV update failed

Dear SOS Partner,

 

Description

A large number of ASGs reported that Symantec AV and/or Symantec Advanced

Machine Learning failing to update on December 18th 2018 through

January 21st 2019.

An issue was discovered that prevents the Symantec updater from reaching out

for the update through the network interface, resulting in a large number

of messages indicating 'Symantec AV update failed'.

Action Required

To recover the bad state and retrieve this update:

If running any version of 6.7.4.x:
Go to the Content Analysis tab; then to Utilities > Services; click on refresh antivirus

engines and signatures

If running ASG 6.7.3.x:
Upgrade to 6.7.4.x. Upon upgrading, the issue will rectify on upgrade.
If there is requirement to stay on 6.7.3, restore factory defaults.

Prior to restoring factory defaults, a configuration backup can be made and

used after defaulting the device.

Status

As of January 22nd 2019, there has been an update with correction published

for Symantec AV, in which corrects the issue, as well as future mitigation of the issue.

Resolution

Symantec AV/AML update published with correction. The version with

the correction is engine 4.0.0.214. LUX version 2.14.0.40.
