Can someone in CA describe in more detail how the data collectors work? I am trying to determine if it makes more sense to have a bunch of vm's handle polling vs 2 phsyical servers. (Cost being the primary consideration).
For example, if I have 2 data collectors, what happens is one of them is shutdown for OS patching? Does the other data collector pick up the polling for the downed data collector? Do data collectors have assigned devices? If not, are they load-balanced?
Why not just have a bunch of VM's doing the polling, and that way, if a data collector is shutdown, I'm either covered by the other vm's, or, at the very least, I "lose" less polling, because less polling is assigned to that individual vm.
Hopefully this makes sense. I'd appreciate it if someone from CA could provide some detailed answers to this question.
