OBS Data for Microsoft Visio

Dec 12, 2014 10:43 PM

Here's our contribution to the toolkit for OBS visualizations. This is a portlet that will export OBS information to Microsoft Excel in a format that you can turn into a visual representation in Microsoft Visio via Visio's Organization Chart Wizard.

1) Xog in attached OBS Data for Visio portlet to your CA PPM instance. Add it to your UI as you see fit.

2) In the OBS Filter pick an OBS then click Filter to run the portlet. Export the data to Excel and save the Excel file.

3) In Microsoft Visio, start the Organization Chart Wizard.

12) You should see a Viso of your OBS.

Works great, as advertised!  But oh boy, the mess it shows after 10+ years of OBS hacking!!!  Can't hide from it anymore when its made this visible.  After showing the results, I finally have some people agreeing with me that we need to do something, to clean things up!

Thanks Rob!

If you are on an older version of content pack, may need to update value in xml file, or you will get an error when xog'ing in.  We changed "content pack" to version 13.1.0.0248 and it works, now.

Expect this is safe to do for several past versions, as OBS design hasn't changed in years.  Of course, try on DEV/Test system first!

We've started our upgrade to 14.2 - we will catch up!

Sent to app team for installation.  Visio license ordered, yesterday - perfect timing.  Can't wait to run this!

Hey! I had to communicate a proposed OBS change today. This thing comes in darn handy and it's great that I can come back here to the community site to see how it works! Thanks Communities!
