 Database Sizing - SQL Server

Good afternoon everyone,

With a database size of 306GB what would be a sensible configuration for the database server for Clarity in terms of memory and CPUs?

The total number of users is around 10,000 (that's allowed now).

Can anyone give an example of their server sizing?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul -  sounds like you are talking about SQL Server.
If I was setting up a new server, I would probably aim for something around 16CPU and 128RAM for Production. I have seen this kind of setups work well. Then keep in mind this is very depending on how the performance currently is and how busy the database is as well, is it dedicated etc. there is a lot of variables.
Hope this helps! -Nika

Thanks Nika,

It will be dedicated. We're moving from a shared server to a dedicated one and it's not easy to see how much muscle we'll need.

Paul - I see, that makes sense. One thing you could try is to match the previous server specifications closely.
Another option would be, if you use a VM is to test with a certain sizing, and then add more CPU/RAM if you determine there is a need with load tests.

Hello from Geneva (Switzerland rather than Wisconsin). We're going with a rather larger than currently necessary spec of 256Gigs and 32 CPUs. If that doesn't fly, we're in trouble. I'll post back to update folks on how we went on.

Thanks again, as ever.
