When Upgrading to vertica 7...
- DR’s must have at least 2 GB of swap space to upgrade to vertica 7
- The file system for the HP Vertica data and catalog directories must be formatted as ext3 or ext4.
I've been corrected by CA support in regards to my posting. The CA process of upgrading the Vertica database is done in a way not supported by HP. As a result, the data repository upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.6.0, and the corresponding upgrade of Vertica, should work following the CA upgrade guide. However, for us there are other issues with this upgrade, and those are related to the way the validation and install scripts were designed.
We just attempted an upgrade of CA Performance Center from version 2.3.3 to version 2.6.0, which is a supported path according to the CA upgrade documentation. However, the data repository upgrade failed. Through CA Support, we obtained assistance from HP Vertica support. The resulting advice was that Vertica can't be upgraded from 6.0 to 7.1. HP indicates that users must upgrade Vertica in three steps, 6.0 to 6.1, 6.1 to 7.0, and then finally 7.0 to 7.1. We are now waiting for CA Support to provide guidance on how this should be done.
This tech tip doesn't really address the upgrade process.
