'The request failed with HTTP status 401: unauthorized' error  when trying to access a new install of APM 12.9 (Asset Portfolio Management)

When accessing a new install of Asset Portfolio Management  12.9 System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. at CA.Common.Web.Services.DataBroker.Read(String PageID, String sortExpression, List`1 ReturnAttributes, List`1 KeyAttributes, String DataClassName, ReadType ReadType, Boolean IsSingleRecordEdit, Int32 StartRowIndex, Int32 MaximumRows, String BoundControlID, OOCriteria Criteria, String ParentClassName, Boolean IsMultiSelectSearch, QueryTop Top, ForeignKeyTenantDetail foreignKeyTenantDetail, String skipChildClassPath))

 

Resolution:

On both the  Application and the Web server.

  1. Under local user and groups, check that the 'IUSRs group' exists and make sure it contains the IUSR user. If not, add the 'IUSR' to this group.
  2. Open the <drive>:\Program files (x86)\CA\ITAM folder
  3. Click prperties, then Security tab
  4. Add 'IUSR group' with  read/write permissions
  5. Restart IIS on both the APP and Web server
