Can't update Finish Date for task and resource

I would like to update the overall Finish Date for a task, as well as the Finish date for each Resource assigned to the task.  However I'm not able to do either successfully -- When I click on each Resource's Finish Date, edit the date, and click SAVE, it bounces back to the original date without making any change. 

I've read other threads and tried updating the overall Project Finish Date to 3/31/2014 (which worked successfully), but this did not solve the problem I noted above.

In your screen shot, you have no more ETC for that task so that is probably why it isn't letting you change your finish data to anything later.
