  • 1.  SPEC 10.1.1 - Best Practise VNM Alarm Management

    Posted Nov 14, 2016 04:48 AM

    Hi there,

I just learned a bit more about Spectrum internal behavior.

Our customer complained about "automatically" cleared alarms (PowerSupply-Alarms generated from traps) after 48 hours.

After a little research I found the responsible element in Spectrum - Alarm Management "Alarm Age-Out Timer".

    The setting is 48hours.

    Now the questions:

    - Is there any recommended setting of that timer?

    - How will Spectrum be influenced by setting timer to a greater value?

    - Are there any best practices available to find best possible settings?

    - Can the timer only be changed globally?

    Thanks for any feedback.

It’s documented here, but it doesn’t answer the questions you have:

    - Is there any recommended setting of that timer?

    A.  There is no generally recommended setting as this is dependent upon the needs of each individual business.

    - How will Spectrum be influenced by setting timer to a greater value?

    A.  Overall there is minimal impact.

    - Are there any best practices available to find best possible settings?

    A.  This is dependent upon the needs of each individual business..

    - Can the timer only be changed globally?

    A.  Yes, it is only global.

    Hope that helps
