Is that possible to monitor the latency between app and db servers in CA UIM

Is that possible to monitor the latency between app and db servers in CA UIM ?

In our environment ICMP is not allowed between CA UIM and servers and so let us know if there is any way to do this monitoring of latency between CA UIM and servers ?

Normally we would use the net_connect probe. This probe will create several QoS metrics and the one you need: QOS_NET_CONNECT_PACKET_LATENCY

But my requirement is to compute the latency between app and db servers and also ICMP is not allowed between CA UIM and servers . So ,now how to do this ? Please let us know .

Perhaps could the e2e_appmon probe be the solution?

    Hi Luc ,

Will you please elaborate on this  e2e_appmon probe on how to do this monitoring of  the latency between app and db servers in CA UIM . Please explain this in the way

    Please see probe documentation

    Hi ,

With the e2e_appmon probe can I get this monitoring of latency between app and db servers achieved ??

I agree that it is very confusing when you read the documentation!

Here is the DOCOPS link to the probe documentation:   (It says NimRecorder replaces WinTask)
    https://docops.ca.com/ca-unified-infrastructure-management-probes/ga/en/alphabetical-probe-articles/e2e_appmon-e2e-application-response-monitoring/e2e_appmon-e2e-application-response-monitoring-release-notes

What is NimRecorder?   Where is the video showing it used?

When you try to use it and fail then you open a case with support.

Results of opening a case is a link to more documentation:
    https://ca-broadcom.wolkenservicedesk.com/external/article?articleId=33526

This above link mentions the program "WinTask Capture Wizard" that is clearly documented to have been replaced!

    • Last update June 17, 2019
    • The E2E Application Response Monitoring (e2e_appmon) probe executes precompiled NimRecorder scripts and monitors the following parameters:

      • Response time of the script execution
      • Execution time of scripts
      • Availability of client applications

Each transaction executes for a certain time limit and generates the QoS messages from the script.

Note: This probe replaces the old wintask probe."

Searching youtube for video training on NIMRECORD results in zero results.

Searching for training on WinTask returns OLD training on what appears to be NimRecorder:

======= Are you confused!  Me too! ===========

Wouldn't it be nice if Broadcom took some time to update the documentation and provide some demonstration of how to correctly record and play back a macro?

Just my thoughts on this conversation,
    David

As I see it, options would include:

    - ping (unless ICMP is blocked as you mentioned...)
    - tracert
    - resmon.exe (Windows Resource Monitor)
       - See "Latency" under the TCP connections section on the Network tab in the Windows Task Resource Monitor to see the values. Latency should not be > 1 ms.         You can always rt-click on the header bar to add more attributes as well.

You can use the net_connect probe but do not use ping.  Use the TCP port, default 1433 not the DBA can change the port based on instances or for other reasons. You can do Jitter tests in it which is a latency test.  We have customers do this all the time as most client server apps that go back to a DB require <5ms latency.
