    Hi,

I never try to upgrade from 12.9 to 17.2 but as I know you need to upgrade to 14.1 before go to 17.2, check next link:

Note: If you are on an earlier release version of CA SDM say r12.5, r12.6, r1.29, it is recommended that you first upgrade to CA SDM 14.1 and then, follow the upgrade process for CA SDM 17.2.

    Hi Avinash,

Are you saying that you are trying a fresh install of CA SDM 12.9 and are using a SQL 2012 database?

    That should work.

Although this is NOT an exact match, it does have two pieces of information which may be useful:
Problem when installing MDB. Installation of MDB fails with the following popup: ---CA Service Desk Manager Component Installer Wizard - Unexpected error. Check log files for details---

    1)  Check the pdm_install_mdb.log for more details. In fact, check any logs that were generated for more messages.

    2) There is a tip not to use a shared drive.

So what is the source media and how are you installing from it? Is it a mounted ISO? A share drive? Copied to the local drive? And then is the SQL server local or on a different server. Was the application server a clean slate with no residual SDM on it from a prior attempt?  Basically "What are the conditions under which the install is happening?"

    Thanks, Kyle_R.

    Hi Avinash,

In addition, can you confirm if the DB is on the same server as SDM or remote?

Are the sql client and sqlcmd installed?

To facilite your life you can use SQL Server installer and check only Advanced Mangement tools. It should include anything needed.

    Hi Brian,

They are different servers, do we need to install MDB on DB server or running the app will install MDB ?

    Thanks

    Great!

Appreciate the confirmation of the key troubleshooting step, and the resolution.
