  • 1.  Latest Spectrum 9.4.2.1 patch does not install

    Posted Feb 27, 2015 02:52 PM

    I am working with support to determine in why in the world would the latest Spectrum 9.4.2.1 update that was just released not install on a Spectrum server (linux) that is already running 9.4.1.0.96.  The install thinks it trying to upgrade from Spectrum 9.3  and I get the following error when I try to run the install

    warning missing charsets in string to fontset conversion

    These Spectrum installs are a ROYAL PAIN

    Hi Opnet,

    The team both L1 and L2 are on it already. We are looking into it.

    There were other folks who installed successfully in their environments, so definitely something going on here.

    We will take this to resolution.

    Potential breakthrough opnet - the most likely cause seems to be spaces..

    You should hear from your support contacts - think we should be ok here.

    Sorry for all the trouble mate..

    What do you mean 'spaces'? Can you elaborate please? I'm doing a fresh install of 9.4.2.1 (9.4.0.0 base install and then 9.4.2.1 patch) and am getting some issues.

    It seems the .vnmrc file gets edited:

    After 9.4.0.0 the file has:

    orb_args=   -Dvbroker.se.iiop_tp.scm.iiop_tp.dispatcher.threadStackSize=1048576 -Dvbroker.se.iiop_tp.scm.iiop_tp.listener.port=14002

    After the 9.4.2.1 patch it now says:

    orb_args=   -Dvbroker.se.iiop_tp.scm.iiop_tp.dispatcher.threadStackSize=1048576 -Dvbroker.se.iiop_tp.scm.iiop_tp.listener.port=

    This has the effect that the CORBA service doesn't start  (netstat -an shows nothing listening on port 14002) so the OneClick server shows that it has no contact to the landscape. It seems it just removes the 14002 from the config during the patch.

    Has anyone else seen this during new installs? I'll raise a case on Monday. It seems to start up and looks like when processd is restarted that is overwrites the vnmrc file.

    Regards,

    Frank

    Hi Frank,

    Yes, this is a known issue. Please take a look at this document:

    TEC1212723 orb_args parameter value in SS/.vnmrc may be truncated after upgrading Spectrum to 9.4.2.x on Linux platform.

    Thanks Silvio,

    I've had a look. Thanks, this seems to do the trick.

    Has anyone had any issues with installing a OneClick only server (no SRM) distributed install? I've been having the install report failed and the MIB compiling part seems to crash.

    I'm using CentOS 6.5 but will test with RedHat 6.5 just to rule out that it's the OS.

    It fails during the GUI install too. Will test a bit more. Thanks for pointing me to this TEC. I was starting to lose hair!

    Regards,

    Frank

    Hi Kiran,

    is it possible to let us know how this was fixed. I am having the same problem here. Trying to update from 9.4 to 9.4.2.1.

    Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion

    Then the installer comes up with unreadable characters.

    Thanks & Best Regards

    Benjamin
