Right click on the column header and select ifalias from table preferences. You will see the description set on the device in that field

    Hi,

I will explain, we have configured one switch and we have 28 interfaces, we have to set some of the interface name of the description like one interface connected to laptop one interface connected to printer one interface connected to mpls..they already set in device end using putty tool.pls suggest.

    Device Description in CA Ticket

We need to ADD the Interface details in CA monitoring tool, now we have only the port details available. if we add the Device Description in CA tool So that we can able to troubleshoot the issues easily .

    Problem / Current Situation

Current Situation only port details is available in the CA ticket . So every time we need to check the Network Interconnectivity details for faster troubleshooting. If we can able to add the Device Description the CA tools we can able to solve the ticket easily and faster.

    Implementation Plan

We need to the Add the proper Device Details in CA tool.

    Thanks,

    Logesh

    Hi,

Interface description will be populated through the ifAlias Attribute . Spectrum  reads the concerned  MIB and populate the value . You need to configure  it in the Device end, or else you may check with the vendor as well.

    HI Logesh,

Please follow the below example in the link , how to set the description in the Device end for the interface on the Juniper device , and how spectrum reads this MIB and populates the value :

    https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/configuring-interface-description.html

Also follow the below Technical document , it may help you to get idea.

You are not being coherent in your request. You initially asked for a way to set the Interface Description for your interfaces.

Anyways, if you want to specify in the message sent to ServiceDesk the IfAlias of the interface (that's different than IfDescription),  you need to modify the SetScript/ClearScript to include the attributes that you require in your notification message. This is where you need to look. What you should be sending over from SPECTRUM to AlarmNotifier is the attribute Internal_If_Alias (0x11f82). This is an Internal SPECTRUM attribute that updates on every SpectroServer startup, or by special request. If you use an External attribute like ifAlias (0x11f7e), every time the BAD LINK alarm appears, the system would try to issue one SNMP get request of the ifAlias from the interface with the alarms.

Generally, it is a good idea to avoid using External attributes in AlarmNotifier scripts, as they induce overhead on alarm processing and could induce delays in notification processing.
