  • 1.  Migration from Win 2012 R2 + AE 11.3.6 SP7 to Win 2016 + AE 12.00

    Posted Nov 23, 2020 05:09 AM
    Current OS: Windows 2012 R2
    Current AE: 11.3.6 SP7

Assuming AE 12.00 is stable, what would be the best path to take for upgrade. We eventually have to upgrade OS; now or later to be current on MS product life cycle.
Should we upgrade in place the OS first then update AE ?
or get a new server 2016 and install everything fresh./ How do I then migrate old server info to the new server. ? any KB articles would be appreciated.

    Hi,

I'm on the same situation as you but I'm on windows server 2016, so did you receive any answer?

I'm looking to an in-place upgrade.

    Regards

These are the answer I got from Tech Support before the request was closed.

    1. Do you support upgrading the OS first and then upgrade to 12.0 or do you support upgrade first to 12.0 first and then upgrade the OS?
either way should work. Both bring risk into the equations because you are fundamentally changing the environments. RMT would recommend doing a lift and shift model.

    2. If there are other upgrade paths, such as start from a new server, please refer me to documents that describe the process.
Yes, we typically don't do in place upgrades like this. We would start with all new infrastructure to allow side by side testing before going live.
