Hello Varun, I will assist to answer the SOI and connector related part of the question. The UIM upgrade question should be raised in the Unified Infrastructure Management community.

Hello Varun, regarding to your upgrade questions.

    Create backups first.

You can find all details for the upgrade of SOI 3.3 to SOI 4.2 here

    https://docops.ca.com/ca-service-operations-insight/4-2/en/installing/upgrades-and-migrations

I would suggest to apply the most recent monthly defect pack in addition after the upgrade.

You can download the monthley defect packs from here:

    https://support.ca.com/us/download-center/solution-details.html

I would suggest to cleanup the SOI UI and SOI Manager caches as follows:

    SOI UI

    delete the folder SOI\SamUI\work\Catalina\localhost

delete all files from folder SOI\SamUI\temp

    SOI Manager

    delete the folder SOI\tomcat\work\Catalina\localhost

delete all files from folder SOI\tomcat\temp

For the upgrade of the Spectrum Connector please look into this document:

Upgrading the Connector - CA Service Operations Insight - Connectors - CA Technologies Documentation

For the upgrade of the UIM Connector please look into this document:

Install, Upgrade, Uninstall CA UIM Connector - CA Service Operations Insight - Connectors - CA Technologies Documentatio…

For the new UIM connector and SOI 4.2 we have the Catalyst Container version 3.4.2 which can be downloaded

    with SO01544 form https://support.ca.com/us/download-center/solution-details.html

The new connector versions can be downloaded here:

CA Service Operations Insight Connectors - CA Technologies

I would suggest to shutdown and upgrade the Connector Servers first.

For UIM connector before you upgrade the Catalyst Container to version 3.4.2 please cleanup the following caches:

Delete all files in the folders below

    \Catalyst\CatalystConnector\container\nls_store
\Catalyst\CatalystConnector\container\registry-cache (this is on the shared cluster drive if I remember correctly)

If you have questions about this or need to discuss you can reach us as well on Chat

    HI Briita,

Thanks for the reply with detailed explanation and suggestions.

And also would like to do analyze check on the Sizing part on the SOI manager. I have gone through vendor provided Hardware requirements. Could see below requirements.

    CA Provided :-

    ==========

Total Configuration Items (CIs): 200,000 - 400,000/ Month
    Managed CIs: 100,000
    Services: 5,000
    Open managed Alerts: 10,000
Un-managed Alerts (not service impacting): 50,000
Alert rate: Up to 30 alerts per second

Now, need clarification on below questions related Hardware requirements.

-> What is Total Configuration items ? Would like to know more about this Total configuration item (CI's), How do we retrieve this Total CI's from SOI Manager or SAMStore DB ?

-> What is unmanaged alerts(not service impacting). Could see on the console with under alert queues->where unmanaged is yes/No.

    Yes: Managed alerts ??

    No: Unmanaged alerts ??

-> And also how do we retrieve list of services from SAM database.

-> How do we calculate Alert rate per second? Any script.

My apologizes here, I'm new to the product and started learning this new tool. So request to excuse my questions if not valid.

    Thanks and Regards

Hello Varun, with "total configuration items (CIs)" we mean all items that the connectors are publishing into SOI based on their configuration. For example with Spectrum Connector you have two locator searches in Spectrum Oneclick under the Integration - Catalyst Connector tree, Devices and Non Devices. Running this two locator searches you will get the number of Models that are getting published from Spectrum Connector into SOI. This CIs are published into the CIStaging table in the SAMStore DB. At this stage they are not part of a service and therefore unmanaged. Alerts that come into SOI for this CIs are named as unmanaged Alerts as well.

When you model Services, CIs modeled to this Services are named as managed CIs and Alerts coming for such CIs are called managed Alerts. Managed CIs will be in the CI table in the SAMStore DB and all Alerts are in the Alerts table.

    Hi Britt,

    Thanks for the details.

We have run the attached SQL query to retrieve the list of alerts for last one month. The count of rows is 173939 records.

Is there a limit as such that SOI manager can hold or process the alerts ?

Below are the stats of Sizing in our customer environment.

    Total CI's : 329989
    Managed CI : 14801
    Services: 695
    Open managed Alerts: 4198

Un-managed Alerts (not service impacting): 22161

Alerts per Month : 150000 to 200000 approx per month.

    Compute details of SOI Manager:-

    CPUTwo 3.0-GHz CPUs
    Disk60 GB
    Memory8.00GB
    DB SIze499GB

With above stats our hardware requirements are up to the mark. Can you confirm on this Sizing is ok ?

    Thanks and Regards
