  • 1.  Self User Management in SOI 3.3

Does SOI 3.3 have self user management? i.e. even if EEM is not integrated, can it have its local users to access the application just like in Spectrum?

    Thanks

    Hi Deepika,

Yes, the default user "samuser" can be used and a read-only user "guest" can be enabled if required.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

    Hi Deepika,

    to enhance on this:

SOI does not have a built-in user management (like Spectrum or eHealth).

All users are coming via the mandatory integration to EEM.

The only user that is available when EEM is down is samuser - this is not a "normal" user, but a hardcoded way into the system.

As Brahma explained, a second user "guest" can be activated to be able to use the system in read-only mode in case EEM is down.

But these methods should only be used in cases of emergencies (e.g. EEM is down), this is not a built-in User Management.

    Hi Brahma, Michael,

    Thanks for the info.

    1. Can we change the name from guest to some other name?

    2. Can we create more than one such guest users?

    3. Can this guest user have privileges as far as that of an admin? and also be added as Superuser?

    Hi Deepika,

this method is not meant to be used as "internal user management".

It is an emergency way into the system in case EEM is down.

As such, stick to the two provided users and use them as is.

Making "guest" an Administrator or Superuser does not make sense to me - you can use samuser if you need these privileges.

    Hi Michael,

    could you please confirm:

    • the user name of guest cannot be changed
    • Guest users have to use the guest.jsp in order to "log in"
    • you cannot set a password for the guest user
    • you cannot move the guest user to another group in SOI, as the user is no available in EEM

I have tested this and just want to be sure that i did it correct.

I like the idea to have an emergency user, but Ill need to set at least a password for it.

Do you know if there is a similar solution for spectrum?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi André,

sorry for the long delay in answering your question.

I did some tests as well, with the following results:

    • The name of guest can be changed: it does not matter how you call the user in the configuration file.  But the name does not make any difference in its usage.
    • Guest users have to use the guest.jsp in order to "log in"
    • you cannot set a password for the guest user
    • you cannot move the guest user to another group in SOI, as the user is not available in EEM

The usage of the guest user (and the guest.jsp) is a direct passthrough into the system as a R/O-user.

Besides being a R/O-user there is no additional securtiy like a password.

The user will inherit all access rights the Operators R/O Group has defined.

Thus, by default this way into the system is not activated.  Activating it means you have to be aware that everybody who knows about the guest.jsp can get into the system.

The real emergency user is samuser, for which you do have a password set.

Sorry, but I have no details about something similar in Spectrum.
