How can I see if a Feature or US in a particular backlog DOES NOT include the associated template? I'm looking for a report or page that tells me for example:

User Count in Sprint 4: 12

User Stories in Sprint 4 with no template: 2

Hi Grant, I suspect that what you are after is not possible. The reason will most likely be that the 'template' is applied at story creation by the UI and sets the field of the new artefact before the 'save' is made. The artefact itself has no record of what set the fields, only 'who' set them.

Grant, just a suggestion that you use a descriptive SUBJECT line on your posts. They're all coming up as "Forum question," which doesn't give an inkling what your inquiry is about. Some members may ignore them in favor of clearly identified threads. ,:)

One suggestion (but not foolproof) would be to include some very specific text in your template somewhere that you could then key in on in a custom list.  For example, if at the bottom of a description template, you included "Template applied: 123", you could then search on (Description !contains "Template applied:").

It's not foolproof, as a user could either delete that text on something where the template was applied, or type that in even if the template wasn't applied, but it would work at least as long as people didn't do that. If you put the text in a custom field, it might be less likely to be messed with.

Another option could be to use a tag, which can be included in your template. The problem here is that if you have other templates that teams use to add additional info to existing stories (e.g. add default tasks, apply color based on story type, etc.), they might also include tags. When applying a template with tags, it REPLACES any existing tags with the tags in your template. Personally I think that should be changed, as I might want to add a certain tag and some other info to certain types of stories without removing their existing tags, but that's how it currently works.

    Terry,

Your suggestion to add custom text in the template is one we've considered, and applied! The concerns you raise are valid, which we also considered, but agree it would be rare. We'll keep experimenting to see what works; thanks for the tips.
