  • 1.  Change Service Type name isn't possible, why?

    Posted Jan 12, 2016 02:23 PM

    Hi everyone,

When editing a Service Type, the Symbol field is read-only. Why it can't be editable?

Is it safe changing it via pdm_load (or making the field editable in WSP)? Is there any issues? What are the options?

    Thanks,

    Hi Diogo,

This is not supported for the sole reason that once you create a service type, and it gets used, and attached to other objects (tickets etc.) where it may be referenced by name on some objects rather than by id, if the name is changed, the objects referencing that service type will then have a dangling reference to it, thus we do not support the changing of a service type name.   If you need to change the name on a service type, you can simply re-create it with the correct name, and inactivate the original one.  This way anything that still references the original one wont break.  We do NOT support using pdm load to update the names.

    Hope this helps

I see... At least, I can copy the service type with all events associated (no need to put all them again).

But, one last question: even if the service type is just created (no objects referecing the service type yet), is it safe to change the name through service type form? (of course, changing the field to editable)
