    Hi All,

We have SED configured, we are getting a few metrics by Host adapter. Our requirement is to report Backend metrics as we get through a typical Java/.Net agent. But, through host adapter we are not seeing any metric with the name Backends. How to get Application to Backend response time in SAP( ABAP) applications? Pls help.

    Regards,

    Chandrasekhar.

The metric name itself won't necessarily contain backend.  There should be a folder titled Backend under the Agent.

However if you have no Frontend metrics, then you won't see any Backend folder.

Your application needs to have a backend and expose backend methods.

Glossary - CA Application Performance Management - 10.3 - CA Technologies Documentation

    backend

An Introscope backend is an external system that a web application relies on for some portion of its processing. For example, a backend might be a database, a mail server, a transaction processing system, or a messaging system.

Introscope automatically identifies databases as backend systems by the name of the database. For other external systems, Introscope analyzes the socket activity of the application. Introscope names the backend based on the IP address and port that the application is communicating over.

In 10.5, we have automatic backend discovery

CA APM Release Notes - CA Application Performance Management - 10.5 - CA Technologies Documentation

    Automatic Backends

The Java agent now automatically discovers and instruments classes and method having the characteristics of backends. You can view automatic backends in WebView, Workstation, and Team Center.

    Hi Matt,

Thank you for the information, the doubt was specifically about SAP Host adapter agent. I got to know from the SAP application team that, they have a Database server which is DB2 and in the introscope I don't see any Backend metrics. I am wondering if there is any configuration we need to do, in order to get the backends metrics for ABAP applications.

    Regards,

    Chandrasekhar.

SED agent behavior is different than standard APM.

Please refer to the SAP documentation regarding the host adapter and double stack agents.

Anything beyond this, you will need to contact SAP go to their forums.

Was Matt's note helpful on explaining why backend metrics may or may not appear? Are there any follow-up questions

    Thanks

    Hi Chandrashekar,

Backend systems metrics are shown under SAP Netweaver node (not under SAP HostAgent Process).

Did you run byte code adapter setup (managed system configuration) from Solution Manager and restarted managed system?

    Thank you
